The New Deal was actually two deals. The first new deal was in 1933 followed by the second new deal which was from 1935 to 1936
First 100 days:
Because of the economic hardship of the time, the public demanded reform administration from their government. Newly elected Franklin D Roosevelt responded with some of the most progressive reform in the country's history within his famous first 100 days of presidency. Congress agreed to every "request" the president made durring this time. Durring the famous hundred days, Roosevelt made some key legislations such as the repeal of prohibition to fight cultural issues that plagued the previous decade, the Economy Act which cut salries of government officials and saved about $500 million per year, and various farming assistance programs so that the main food supply of the country, farmers, would be protected. This brings us to alphabet soup.
Aphalbet Soup:
Alphabet soup is sort of a joke term for new deal administrative programs and legislations. Such significant programs like the AAA (Agricultural Adjustment Act), the TVA (Tennessee Valley Athority), and WPA (Works Projects Administration) created a sort of Alphabet soup effect with all the random letters in the mix of the New Deal. These programs did things like pay farmers not to plant too many crops so that there would be less crops produced and the prices would go up, thus bennefitting the farmer, or also the TVA funded a hydroelectric energy source in the Tennessee River Valley, one of the nations poorest areas. Perhaps most notably though is the WPA which gave part time employment to down on their luck laborers keeping spirits alive to as much as they could be. The Aphalbet soup was devided up into 3 main portions the first new deal was designed to provide relief and recovery for victims of the depression.

Besides ending the Great Depression, the New Deal aimed to create long term reform to prevent another depression from ever happening again. Some New Dealers tried to use the government regulation to counter big business.
Second New Deal
The Second New Deal refers to the second serious of legislations past. These legislations had one big idea in mind and that was reform. Some of the more notable legislations past in the second new deal were the Wagner Act which protected the rights of laborers to form and maintain unions another notable act was the Agriculture Adjustment Act this act destroyed exess crop yes it literally said that we must burn x amout of our crop. In doing so this allowed for crop prices to grow stablizing the economy.
Significance of Both:
The New Deal's reform movement set a large prescident as the end of laissez faire or hands off policy of the government in regulation of business in America. While the New Deal did not actually end the Great Depression, it was incredibly important because it showed the masses that their government was at least making an effort to help them through the greatest period of economic hardship in their nation's history. With the New Deal's so ended on of americas great debates and what was that debate you ask? It was the debate over laisser faire a debate that was around since the creation of the nation.
